The Rajasthan state government is expected to present the much-anticipated Right to Health Bill draught during the upcoming assembly session. Before presenting the draft, the health department will consult with interested parties, including medical associations, private hospitals, social service organizations, and advocates for health rights.
A 15-member select committee, led by the health minister, Dr. Parsadi Lal Meena, and composed of 14 other MLAs from various political parties, including the BJP and the Congress, has also been established by the Vidhan Sabha. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has requested that the state government alter the bill after it was sent to a select committee during the previous assembly session.
According to Dr. Tarun Ojha, president of IMA-Jaipur, the term "emergency" was not defined properly, and the association strongly urged that it be removed from the bill. Meanwhile, Dr. Anuraj Sharma, secretary of IMA-Jaipur, referred to a provision in the bill that requires private hospitals to offer free care to a patient brought to the hospital in an emergency scenario. He asked, "How would the reimbursement be done for patients treated in a private hospital?"
